Japan weakens cyberbrain immunity

I actually heard this news on the radio while on my way to San Francisco: Apparently, Japan has cancelled the high-school hacking contest, which was originally sponsored by the Ministry of Information and Trade, caving in to protests from the industry.

Obviously, I am somewhat alarmed by this decision. If the cyberbrain immunity levels are not instilled into children at a young age, what will happen when the next Laughing Man comes along ? Who will be there to stop it ? And I shudder to even imagine what will happen when The World goes into a recursive loop, or when the Knights of the Lambda Calculus make their bid for control of all Wired. It will be like a wildfire in a field of ripe wheat.

By the way, have you noticed how in Japan, hacking carries a one-year jail term penalty ? Here in the US, you can be put away for life just for having a Metallica song on your drive... I guess we should one-up Japan and ban debuggers, too, just to make sure that terrorists don't get a hold of one...
