And now, the exciting conclusion to my previous entry ! Ok, so maybe it's not that exciting. Anyways, there's a new anime out called Galaxy Railways (note: incomprehensible Japanese link). The anime is set in the same universe as Galaxy Express 999; three episodes have been released so far. This is not really sufficient to comment on the story, but the art deserves a mention: basically, this is high-quality art in the Leiji Matsumoto style, but with a full-scale budget -- the series is worth checking out just for that. Watching Galaxy Railways elicits the same sort of feeling I get when I'm listening to the orchestrated remix of the Super Mario Bros theme: a perfect fusion of the old and the new. In addition, the fansubs are provided by Live-eviL and AonE; these are probably the most competent fansubbers out there, which means that the translation is at least coherent (which is more than I can say for the average Hong-Kong-based subs). So, I highly recommend watching Galaxy Railways even if you don't share my nostalgia for the original; I'll post an updated review once I see more of the series.
