My Life
I'm not a Native Texan, first of all. Nor am I a "Gen-X"-er, a "Gen-Y"-er, or whatever term they want to stick to people in my age group, well I don't behave like they say we do. I'm a math major (physics minor) at Texas Tech University. The plan is to get a PhD and be a full-fledged Mathematician (see the capital M?). What will I do with it? Anything I want. Mwa ha haaaa. Actually, I'll probably just end up teaching at a university. That won't be so bad, though. Despite my atrocious communication skills, I seem to be a pretty good teacher. Better than the math and physics teachers at Amarillo high schools, at least (students words, not mine). I work for a mortgage company that just reached billion dollar status, and being a part of the growing experience is pretty cool, even if I have the corporate equivilant of a McJob.
Interests
I prefer to have hobbies in place of interests, since hobbies require you to actually do something. Marriage, however, has turned most of my hobbies into interests as I have become a weekend-warrior in just about every field of interest. But to lay it out there, I'm very much into music. Classic Rock really floats my boat: from progressive rock to acid rock to 80s hair bands. I'm big on video games, but my wallet isn't, so I pick and choose. I stay towards console games, because I don't like buying a new video card every time a new game comes out. Martial arts are a big deal, too. I have experience with Karate, Kung-fu, Kenjutsu, Fencing, and Capoeira; but my Karate and Kung-Fu training is very much informal. I like to draw and design (though I don't think I'm very good at either), and once upon a time I had every HTML tag (and allowable attributes) memorized (I don't now, though).
About the Site
I swore I'd never run a blog. I think that was my vain attempt to be indie, but I've since learned that all the indie people get livejournal accounts (bah!). My friend Bug gave me the webspace and Movable Type account mainly because he didn't want me to Instant Message him page-long reviews of some video game purchases. It kind of took off from there.
I did my graphics in Photoshop (what else?) Content Management comes from Movable Type, and the galleries are run with JAlbum. I hand coded the CSS and redesigned MT and JAlbum templates with Dreamweaver MX
Though I did everything by hand, I blatantly ripped off the main design elements from Mr. Johan Sahlén at Excessive Style, but only because it closely resembled what I wanted to do anyway.
