Nixie Spots

This Nixie Tube (shown sideways) has these beautiful blue spots in it. The spots hover just on the inside on the glass, and only appear when the "1" cathode is lit. I have no idea what they are; I think blue is the spectral line for mercury, but I'm not sure. I think the aliens are messing with my head again.
